Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at becoming an international star were unsuccessful. The singer had been signed to two different record labels, but she resigned prior to releasing any songs. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention for its cheerfully joking title. Perry made more of a splash in the following months with her track I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a sharp electronic-pop beat. It was a controversial song and critics were critical of it for encouraging relationships with a partner and other charged that it portrayed a racy scene which appealed to men's desires for female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl became a worldwide number-one hit due to the combination of titillation with a polished melodic tune. The song also assisted her to sell more albums, such as One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with its second hit single also was a hit. The album Perry created by herself sold more than 3 million copies.
